2011 Club Challenge

It's that time of year again when we take up the challenge against clubs from across Sydney. Last year was our first entry into this competition and we played against North Sydney, South Coogee and North Bondi in a home and away series. Whilst we didn't win too many matches, we gained very valuable experience playing against different clubs, on different greens and with different attitudes to bowls than at our club. All in all, a great experience.

This year we are in a series against North Sydney, Belrose, The Hills, Merrylands and Northmead. We can expect the competition from all these clubs will be fierce and they will be doing their utmost to win.

  1. Well the Club Challenge season is over for our club for 2011, and I must say, it has been a great season for us. Sure, we lost a few games, but on the bright side, we showed we played some very strong teams and showed that as a club, we can be competitive.

Congratulations to all the players in this year’s series. Everyone put in their best and fought to the last end to make the best of the matches.

    Well done.

I’m looking forward to next year’s rounds and the opportunity to better this year’s results, just as this year was an improvement on 2010.

I’d say our objectives of gaining experience and improving result were achieved. If you were part of the season, what do you think? If you weren’t, join the fun in 2012.

  2. Finally, the weather turns to what you would expect of summer, making our journey to Northmead a pleasant one.

Whilst Keith played a pretty good game, today he was no match for his opponent in the singles, ultimately losing 10 to 31.

Warren & Peter played well but could not get a break their way. Final score was 5 to 21.

The fours had an interesting and enjoyable game, taking an early lead and holding it for most of the game. The Northmead boys came back at us and took the lead with a couple of ends to go. We needed 4 on the last to draw, and only made 3. Final result was a loss 12 to 13.

The hospitality and spirit of the Northmead side helped make this round as enjoyable despite the loss) as you could look for.

One round to go against The hills at home next Saturday morning.

  3. Congratulations on today’s results. A terrific win by the fours, leading from the get go. I saw some pretty good bowling from all the team and it was no wonder they were able to take the points, winning 24 to 8.

Keith & Michael had a tough game against the young brothers who played in great style, and they took the points in the pairs winning 18 to 13.

The comeback of the comp so far has to be the singles match. When I arrived Peter was down 22 to 13, but with concentration and focus, he was able to close the gap to 22 all. From there it was a tussle to the finish. A few more ends and the score was 30 to 27 against Peter, however Peter came up with the goods cooly picking up 4 points, to take the game 31 to 30. A great comeback.

Next week is against Northmead at Northmead.
