2018 Hornsby Cup

Under clear skies and cool breeze, our boys faced the annual challenge of the Hornsby Cup.

As winners in 2017, Asquith BC hosted this year's event, and as usual, the tournament ran smoothly.

Congratulations to the side from our nearest neighbours, Pennant Hills BC. Pennant Hills won each of the four formats, giving them a clear victory in the tournament. The last time Pennant Hills won the trophy was in 2009, with Asquith and Wisemans Ferry exchanging the trophy since then.

The pairs team of Ross Fitzpatrick and Ian Corke had a slow start against Beecroft. A 5 on the 5th end gave them the lead, and by the 12th end had a lead of 20 to 9. Beecroft was not out of the fight and won the next 5 ends to close the gap to 20 to 17.  Winning 5 of the last 7 ends gave Ross and Ian a final score of  30 to 22. A terrific result.

Steve Arnold, Geoff McIntosh and Kevin Tuckerman contested the triples against Pennant Hills and did not seem able to buy a point! Pennant Hills managed to master the conditions and took the game at 43 to 9.

Jim Ede, Dallas Palm, Ross Iredale and David Wilson struggled in the fours match against North Epping. Losing the first 4 ends to be 10 to 0 down, it was time for some effort from the boys. Unfortunately, the best we could muster was two singles and by the 10th end, were down 17 to 2. Winning 7 of the last 11 ends was not sufficient to reel in the deficit, losing 14 to 26.

Thanks to the greenkeepers from Proturf, the greens ran true, and just a little quicker than we are conditioned to.
