  1. Closing time is approaching very quickly for members to nominate for positions on the committee. We are still looking for a number of roles to be filled. Nominations close at 5pm this Saturday.

So, if you are still undecided, don’t delay any further.
If you initially dismissed the idea, now is the time to reconsider your position and your opportunity to influence how the club is run.

I’d like to believe that there is sufficient interest in this club that we will have sufficient nominations to avoid calling for them form the floor on the day. Come on guys, get off your tails!

  2. Do we not care???

Are we that complacent of our bowls and our sport that we don’t care if we have a committee to organise our sport?

Do we not care who is on our committee and whether they have the skills, the motivation and the resources to do a great job for us??

If you answered ‘No’ to these questions then nominate yourself or another member to stand in the upcoming elections. Otherwise you will certainly ‘get the committee you deserve’.

  3. At this time of year, we all have an opportunity to think about and express our thoughts and ideas for our club. With a new committee (remember all positions are open for re-election and a number of incumbents have indicated they will not be standing again) there is no better time to air your views. This will give the committee food for thought in preparing plans for the coming year.

Remember this is your club and part of the committee’s role is to provide the events and activities that the members want. However, if the committee isn’t given any leads by club members, then they (the committee) essentially have carte blanche in organisning the coming year.

Summing up – have your say. Make your views known.

  4. For those that have thoughts or ideas on how to improve our club, there are many positions on the committee or in sub-committees where you can add value. The positions to be filled include President, vice President (x2), Treasurer, Secretary, Bowls Co-ordinator (here’s a chance for those that feel our bowls programme is overloaded or underloaded or could be better organised), and committee members.

Outside the committee, a very important role is on the panel of selectors. This group has the responsibility to select opponents in club games that are balanced, provide opportunity to learn from better players and encourage bowlers to work hard at their game. Another very important role for the selectors is to manage the selection of sides foe the annual Pennant season, which is the ultimate inter-club competition for clubs.

So, give the idea of standing for election to committee of selectors some serious thought. Nomination forms are available on the notice board in the Sports Room, and I’m happy to print more if needed.

  5. This is the once a year opportunity for members to take up the challenge of helping to run the section by standing for a spot on the management committee, as a selector or one of the many other roles.

Go on, have a go and make your mark (hopefully positive).
