2014 Grade 5 Pennant Finals – Tamworth 8-11th August

The team headed by car to Tamworth on Thursday and Friday last week to play off for the State Grade 5 Pennant Title.

Our host club for the sectional round-robin matches was West Tamworth Bowling Club.

First match was against Parkes BC on Saturday morning. Despite holding a very impressive lead for the first half of the match, the wheels fell off, with Hoffers rink the only one held, and total score of  47:56.

Game 2 in the afternoon against Canowindra BC was a 'must win' match to give us any chance of reaching the finals. Rod's team managed a draw and other teams lost out. Final score 42:73

Game 3 on Sunday morning against Taren Point was a game the boys can take much pride in. Taren Point came into this game with plenty of confidence, having won both their earlier games. A win against us would give them automatic entry into the semi-final. We worked very hard to recover from slow start and finished the match just 3 points short.

Overall, our boys did the best they could against some quite good bowlers. The weekend has been a great experience for all of us and one we will cherish. Despite the odds against them, all players exhibited the 'champion' spirit - not conceding anything and forcing our opponents to win the shot.

Our thanks go to West Tamworth Bowling Club for hosting the finals - great organisation and hospitality. The greens however, were a different story. We wondered how the club could host the final (as did any player from any of the other clubs) with sub-standard greens. I'm sure the club will address this in future.

As side manager, Warren did a top job, preparing us and arrangements for the weekend, and keeping us well informed of any changes.

Big thanks go to our Sports Club. Without the support of the West Pennant Hills Sports Club this experience may not have been possible for some of our team.
