VICTORY!!!
A truly electrifying conclusion to the regular section of the 2014 Zone 10 Pennants. The 5s were playing away at Brush Park, mindful that they needed a big win to secure a spot in the port-sectional playoffs. Sitting only two points ahead of a strong side from Merrylands, it was a do-or-die match.
The Rod Foster Rockets combined the talents of lead Gary Tyrrell, second Darren Ede, third Michael "the Shade" Schwarcz and skip Rod Foster. Leading early on in the game, the Rockets had to fight hard to stay in front in the face of a determined Brush Park team. In a close fought game, the Rockets finished the season with an 18-all draw. A great effort from all in this team. Special mention should be made of Gary Tyrrell in his first Pennant season with West Pennant Hills and Darren Ede in his first Pennant season who have bowled well and added their fun and positive attitude to our Pennant side.
The Hoffman Hornets featured the skills of lead "Young Doug" McClymont, second Don "Sofa" Couch, third Dallas Palm and skip Kevin "the Hoff" Hoffman. Like the Rockets, the Hornets led early on in the match and maintained a comfortable lead over Brush Park including picking up seven shots on one end. But Brush Park dug deep and pegged the Hornets back to be 24-all going into the last end. The Hoff faced a mighty undertaking when stepping on to the mat, unsure whether or not the Hornets had the shot on this must win end. A masterful display of draw bowling from Kevin saw him put the result beyond doubt. The Hornets picked up two shots on the final end to win the rink 26-24.
The Kevin Tuckerman Kings has been so fortunate to have had an unchanged line up throughout the 2014 season. Lead "Stormin' Norm" Jackson, second Brian Joyce, third David Wilson and skip Kevin "KTuc" Tuckerman have played all but one game with this line up and the continuity of this team has been the key to its success. Despite being 12-4 down after 10 ends, the Kings were not about to take this one lying down. Special mention should be made of skipper Kevin, who played an absolutely magnificent on-shot which resulted in a complete shift in the momentum of the team on the 12th end. After 19 ends, the scores were tied at 17-all. Over the next two ends, there were many tense moments but the Kings held on to take the win 19-17.
Overall, the 5s took a 63-59 shot win to claim 5.5 to 0.5 points. This secured our spot on the top of the section and in the post-sectional playoff to be played on 28th June with 42 points and a for/against shot margin of 80 for the season.

Our congratulations to our fellow sectional winners at the Hills who won section 3 of the grade also on 42 points with a for/against shot margin of 140 for the season. We look forward to seeing you in the post-sectional games. Section 2 is yet to be decided with three teams in contention of top spot. The master scoreboard is available on the Zone 10 website or by clicking here.
Thank you to those enthusiastic supporters who came to Brush Park to cheer us on including our club Chairman Richard Hickey, club President Warren Phillips and good bloke Don Stubbin. Your support made the difference.
Looking back on the season, there have been some truly great moments for the 5s in the 2014 season. I believe the most satisfying was our win in the third round where we beat Merrylands at Merrylands 6-0. It has been great visiting other clubs in our zone and meeting new bowlers. It will be sad to see our friends from Parramatta RSL not playing for their club next year with the bowling club closed at the conclusion of this Pennant season.

I was priveleged to be at the final regular game at Brush Park yesterday against the local side.
It was a tense afternoon for our 5’s with the result in doubt until the last end and the final bowl deliverd to determine the winner. A great matchup and deservedly the correct outcome as the boys have played very good bowls consistently throughout the ten rounds with only one minor mishaps. Good luck in the sectional playoffs..you’ll go well!!!

Congratulations guys. Magnificent effort. GOOD LUCK in the playoffs!
Another fine report from our playing reporter – and boy did he play some excellent games!
This makes only the second zone play offs in the past 11 years for our club, the last in 2009 when the 4s won the zone flag.
I add my congratulations to all bowlers of this side. We have all supported each other and combined as teams and as a side to bring about this victory.
Well done to all.
