Congratulations to the three teams which won through to next week's semi-finals of the 2017 Men's Fours.
On rink two, Jim Ede, Ross Iredale, Dallas Palm and Mike Brown played against Steve Hardwick, Don Stubbin, Steve Watson and Bob Cole. This game was very much a game of two halves. For the first ten ends, the margin was no greater than three shots, with the scores tied going into the 11th end. It was then that the tone of the game changed. Mike Brown's team put their collective foot to the floor winning eight of the last eleven ends of the game including 5 shots on the 16th end. The final score was 27-11 to Jim, Ross, Dallas and Mike.
On rink three, David Curtis (sub for Michael Schwarcz), Geoff McIntosh, Rod Foster and David Wilson were up against Michael Trimboli, Merv Cannon, Steve Arnold and Don Couch. The most exciting end of this game was the last end. After drawing level at 14-all on the 18th end, Don's team picked up a one and a two on the next two ends to go into the 21st end with a handy three shot lead. However, proving the age old adage that anything can happen in bowls, David's team held three shots before David's last bowl. The author would concede that he had a bit of luck as his bowl got a bit of a straighten on its way into the head. Picking up four shots on the last end, the final score was 18-17 to David, Geoff, Rod and David.
On rink four, Ian Corke (sub for Doug McClymont), Dom Surace, Gerard D'Costa and Ross Fitzpatrick faced off against Les Watkins, Keith Robinson, Darrin Ede and Kevin Tuckerman. Ross's team shot to an early lead after picking up a five on the first end, however, Kevin's team pegged them back to be 11-10 after 11 ends. Throughout the next eight ends, the scores stayed tight with neither side conceding more than two shots. After 19 ends, the scores were 15-16 to Kevin's team. Storming home however, Ross's team picked up two threes on the last two ends.
