In the first semi-final, Jim Ede, Bob Cole and Darrin Ede were up against Ian Corke, Michael Quinlan (substituting for David Wilson) and Ross Fitzpatrick. A relatively sedate and evenly matched first third of the game saw scores locked at 5-all after seven ends. Darrin's team took a few quick multiples to lead 10-5 after 10 ends. Not to be outdone and certainly not down for the count, Ross's team surged back to win the next five ends and lead 15-10 after 15 ends. The turning point in the game however was the 17th end when Ross's team picked up 5 shots to take their overall lead to nine with scores at 20-11. Darrin's team made a late comeback run, winning the last three ends for a handy 5 shots. However, this wasn't enough with Ross's team taking the win 21-16.
In the other semi-final game, David Polley, Ken Henry and Mal Horner faced off against Harold Holden (substituting for Roy Robinson), Merv Cannon and Dallas Palm. This game was very evenly matched with teams never more than five shots away from each other. The best result on a single end was a 3 shot haul by Dallas's team on the 10th end to lead 10-5. Mal's team were still in the game and making a concerted effort to close the gap. They did so with 2 shot wins on back to back ends on the 15th and 16th before another 2 shot haul tied the scores at 13-all going into the 19th end. As a hush came over the crowd, the final ends began. On the next end, Mal's team took the lead for the first time since the fourth end. In a come from behind victory, Mal's team took the win 17-13.
