The advent of data mining, geo-spatial mapping, and accessibility of information, there is some really cool stuff out there.
Based in the Faculty of the Built Environment at UNSW since 2005, the City Futures Research Centre has developed into a national leader in scholarly applied urban research. This team has produced some pretty interesting information off the back of Australian Bureau of Statistics data coupled with mapping tools. One of their pieces of work is the mapping of Bowling Greens, Sydney, Australia.
The map displays the distribution of the Bowling greens (clubs) in Sydney metropolitan area. The boundary is based on the UCL (Urban Centre and Locality , ABS 2011). Data collection was based on Google search for Bowling green areas.
