It has been a sad fortnight for members at West Pennant Hills. We have lost two great members who made an immeasurable contribution to the life of our Section.
Geoff Williams
Geoff passed away on Friday 13 November 2015 surrounded by his family at the SAN Hospital following a long battle with cancer. Jonathan Rixon, Cliff Johnstone and I attended Geoff's funeral this past Friday (20 November) where he was remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, whose love of the beach and the sunshine was unsurpassed. It was a particularly moving service with heartfelt eulogies from many of Geoff's children, his grandchildren and former colleagues. Geoff was a long standing member of the bowling section and an umpire for many years. Geoff was 88 years young. On a personal note, I remember bowling with Geoff during my first few years at the club. He was a very generous man who would happily drive me to other clubs during the Pennant season (this was before I could drive!) and was supportive of me playing bowls no matter how much my performance had let the team down. On behalf of the Section, I extend our heartfelt sympathies to Shirley and the family.

I was saddened to receive news today that Geoff Seamons passed away this morning (Sunday 22 November 2015). For as long as I have been a member, every time I would see Geoff in the Club, he was ready with a friendly handshake, a cheerful smile and an irrepressible chuckle. Following a cruise he went on where the stewards mispronounced his name, I would always call him 'Gee-off-rey' which also brought forth his infectious laugh. I even remember when, following my election as President, he went so far as to stand when I entered the room. It is the hint of mischief in his smile and the unmistakable twinkle in his eye that I will most remember. Geoff was a true gentleman who was well respected by all members. I have nothing but the highest respect for his dedication to our game and the sense of fair play he always displayed in the discharge of his umpiring duties. On behalf of the Section, I extend our heartfelt sympathies to Pam and the family. Details of Geoff's funeral will be made available to members as soon as they come to hand.
