It is with much sadness to inform our bowling community that our friend and fellow bowler, Merv Cannon, passed away at 1am Friday, 12th January.
His daughter, Jenny, was with him until late the previous night and our thoughts are with her and his entire family. He is now with his loving wife once again.
Joining the club in December 2012, Merv was a competitive bowler entering in club competitions starting with the Minor Singles in August the following year. His championship achievements included:
- Champions - 2014 Barry Walker Classic Pairs - Merv Cannon & Jeremy Thiederman
- Runners-Up - 2018 Bob Macintosh Minor Pairs - John Skidmore & Merv Cannon
- Champions - 2019 Gordon Atkins Fours - Merv Cannon, Don Couch, Mal Horner & Kevin Tuckerman
- Runners-Up - 2019 Triples - Clive Donohoo, Merv Cannon & Kevin Tuckerman
Merv represented WPH Sports in Pennants over a number of seasons. Merv was always ready to have a friendly chat after the game.
Outside of bowls, in 2017, Merv was recognised in a ceremony at NSW Parliament House as being amongst the longest serving Justices of the Peace (JP) with over 50 years serving the community.
May Merv rest in peace.
