It is with much sadness that I inform members of the passing of Steve Brady.
Steve sadly passed away peacefully on Friday 22 December. As members may be aware, Steve had suffered from severe emphysema for a number of years. Ultimately it was this which forced him to give up bowls and, more recently, its was his poor health which saw him move into the Woodlands Nursing Home.
Steve had enjoyed a long career with Travelodge as one of their chief engineers. This job took him all over the world before he and Pat had settled in Cherrybrook.
Steve joined our club in March of 1998 and was always a cheery and friendly bowler, on and off the green. He won the 2009 Barry Walker Classic with Keith Robinson, and in what was a real purple patch for Steve in 2012, he won the Ken Wighton Novice Singles, the Minor Pairs with Norm Jackson and the Minor Triples with Norm Jackson and John Skidmore.
Steve ably represented our Bowling Section on the board of the Sports Club for a number of years with his background in engineering and construction proving to be a great asset as the Sports Club embarked on its recent redevelopment. Steve was also one of our great chefs cooking up a storm when the club still had access to a barbeque.

On a personal note, Steve played second in my first game of bowls at WPH just over twelve years ago. He was a great bloke whose enthusiasm for our game and competitive spirit will be sorely missed. Even when he was unable to bowl anymore, he would still pop down to the club to catch up with his mates, watch some bowls and enjoy a cold beer.
A Funeral Service for Steve will be held this Friday 29 December at 2.30pm at the White Lady Funerals (Cnr Pennant Hills Road and Boundary Road, Pennant Hills).
May he rest in peace.
