Hornsby Cup

It's that time of the year again when clubs from across Horsnby shire enter sides into the Horsby Cup. This is a tournament comprised of singles, pairs and fours played on the one day.
Last year, the cup was contested in extreme wind conditions - the wind socks were blown so stiff they looked like collars from old English gents shirts!

Despite the wind (which everyone has to contend with) the day was a great opportunity to meet bowlers for the first time or renew acquaintances.

I'm looking forward to Sunday 19th (and less wind than last year) for a chance to earn points for my club. Maybe I'll see you there too!

  1. Well we ventured to Pennant Hills BC to contest the Hornsby Cup in what we expected would be much kinder conditions than last year.

Whilst the weather was much kinder, the opposition proved just as tough (as you’d expect in a comp like this) as last year.

My singles match was against Tony from Asquith – a thoroughly enjoyable game, tough, tight, but in the end I was no match for his game. Thanks Tony for your kind words of encouragement. Who knows, we may get to play against each other again some day. In the meantime, all the best in your bowls. On reflection, I’d class the game as one of the best singles games I’ve played so far (except for not winning) and look forward to playing at that standard more often.

Our fours gave a valiant fight and looked in a good position going into the last end, however it wasn’t to be. Good effort guys.

I can’t say what the results of our pairs and triples games were as I could’t stay around for the whole game.

For me, it’s back to our greens for practice sessions after work to rebuild/build the consistency I need in order to win. Maybe I’ll see you there?
