Jim Ede wins 2022/23 Major Singles

The Major Singles final was played on a fine day, and an exciting match between Jim Ede and Chris Judkins was expected.

Jim chose to play long Ends, and after 7 Ends led 9-1. Chris focused his efforts and won the next 3 Ends, with a 2 shot End followed by two 3 shot Ends levelling the scores at 9 apiece. Scores were 15 all after 20 Ends. After 25 Ends Chris was now leading 22-15.

Jim fought back and managed to level the score at 27 all after 35 Ends. On the 38th End, Jim held shot but Chris’s firm shot took the jack into the ditch for 2 shots, again levelling the score at 29 all. Chris now led 30-29 going into the last End.

All eyes were on Jim as he bowled the last bowl of the match and managed to trail the Jack for 2 shots and victory, winning 31-30 after a marathon 40 Ends. An absorbing match to watch.

Congratulations to winner Jim, commiserations to runner-up Chris.
