Latest Club News

Everyone would be aware that we need to increase membership in our bowling sections. An email received by Ross Iredale from Bowls Australia resulted in Kay Iredale, Yvonne Kavanagh, Ian Corke and Max Walters, as representatives from our Women’s and Men’s Bowling Sections, meeting with Brett Hughes from Bowls Australia. Brett offered some helpful suggestions and it was decided to try some new approaches.

Tuesday 2nd October

Following Women’s Bowls, we have 60 children between 5-12 years of age to play bowls for about 1½-2hours. We will need volunteers from both sections but we are delighted that Brett Hughes from Bowls Australia will bring along extra equipment and guide us on the day. Brett would like a meeting to discuss arrangements on Tuesday 18th September about 1-1.30 and some assistance would be helpful that day as well, please.

Thursday 11th October

We are aware our calendar is getting busy, but the enthusiasm to do something has also encouraged us to invite parents to bring their children (over 12 years) along on this day in the school holidays to have a go at bowls between 11 am and 3 pm. This will be promoted in our current Club magazine, and again in our hope to gain new members, your assistance would be appreciated.

Friday 2nd November

Two events are planned for this day!

  • 10.30 am to 11.30 am

“Healthy Brain, Healthy Body” is a free presentation organised by a company called Bolton Clarke aimed at retirees or those close to retirement.

The idea is to invite general members of the Club as well as bowlers and friends and families. The one-hour session (followed by Q and A) will introduce attendees to six factors of positive ageing and learn to experience happiness and satisfaction at any age.

  • From 12 pm

Following the “Healthy Brain, Healthy Body” session we will invite ALL present if they would like to participate in a short, fun game of bowls called Jack Attack. Hopefully, our bowlers and visitors will enjoy the experience and maybe we can find some new members.

Jack Attack is a short, sharp concept that is perfect for non-bowlers and bowlers alike. It is basically two sets of five ends played by teams of three. The game includes power plays and is a similar format to the Premier League bowls as seen on TV.

Please note that many of our members will be away on their bowling excursion to Canberra between 23rd Sept and 5th October.

If you are available to help it would be greatly appreciated.
